There are more than 60,000 children in out-of-home placements in California. Hundreds of our local kids and teens are in need of a home right now. New Families works with foster youth from the counties of Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Santa Clara.

Why do children come into care?

Children come into foster care for some of the following reasons:

  • Physical Abuse

  • Sexual Abuse

  • Emotional Abuse

  • Abandonment

  • Sibling Abuse

  • General Neglect

  • Severe Neglect

Who are the children in care?

  • Children of every age, race, background and religion

  • Sibling groups

  • Pregnant teens

  • Teen parents and their child(ren)

  • Children with Special Needs

  • LGBTQ children and teens

How do foster/resource families help?

  • They provide a safe place to protect and nurture children

  • They help meet the children’s developmental needs and address developmental delays

  • They can support relationships between children and their biological families

  • They connect children to safe, nurturing relationships intended to last a lifetime

  • They work as a member of a professional team

  • They have cultural awareness and willingness to support the cultural beliefs of the child and the child’s family of origin.
